Back to school means busy Stylists at Just Cuts Waurn Ponds

18 Jan 2022

It’s a busy time of year at Just Cuts Waurn Ponds as parents are bringing in their kids for back to school Style Cuts.

Armstrong Creek resident and hairdressing veteran of 34 years Karen Thomas says her team of 8 Stylists are excited to see their old and new Clients again ahead of the 2022 school year.

“Schools usually have photos planned for the first week of term, so parents generally come in during the fortnight before school goes back to get their kids hair done - so they look their best for photos,” said Karen.

The most popular Back to School Style Cuts recently is the mullet.

“Short back and sides and buzzcuts are still a staple Style Cut for a lot of our kids,” said Karen.

“The trendier ones love the disconnected look finishing off with one of our JUSTICE Clay or Gel products, but the more rebellious kids in grade 5/6 are in love with the AFL players and the demand for mullets is exploding. I don’t follow football myself and thought I’d seen the end of these in the 80s - but we can’t seem to shake the mullet! “

“They pull out their phones and show us the hairstyles of the players they want to look like, the kids know exactly what they want and we just get to work and make it happen.”

Karen says girls are happy to experiment and create more individual styles as well.

“I worked with a lovely 9 year old girl who wanted 80’s hair- really short on the sides and back with long top curls hanging over her eyes – like the old Pseudo Echo band. You couldn’t wipe the grin off her face afterwards.”

“The mullets haven’t just been for the boys - a girl came in and wanted one too, she had her heart set on it, and we were more than happy to please!”

All Just Cuts Stylists are fully qualified hairdressers who specialise in cutting hair for all ages. Karen says Geelong families have already started coming in for their Back to School Style Cuts on the weekends.

“Dads and Mums are coming in with their kids each day, they love using the JUSTCUTS app for contactless check in, as they can add themselves to the queue from home and then time their arrival to the salon according to the wait time” said Karen. “With every Style Cut or product purchase they earn points towards vouchers to redeem in salon.”

“My advice to parents is to bring the kids in sooner rather than later before we get too busy.”

Last month Karen received a Customer Service Impact Award from the Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre.

“I don’t know who nominated me or why but it’s always wonderful to receive positive feedback – I was quite chuffed,” said Karen.“I started hairdressing as soon as I left school and what I love most about my job is chatting with people from all walks of life, from doctors to lawyers, cleaners to kids & seniors.”

“That will never change for me – good conversation never goes out of style.”
